Getting a Taste of German Culture
Bericht von Dorothee Bublitz, FLA Ambassador.
Guten Appetit!
With a pinch of interest in baking and some grams of excitement about getting a taste of German eating culture, I, Dorothee Bublitz and a group of students from different forms, started the German Baking Club at the King Edward VI Handsworth School.
From Choco-Crossies to Amerikaner
The German Baking Club consisted of two groups of about eleven students who met on Mondays or Tuesdays once a month from February to May 2010. The club was during lunch time and we made Choco-Crossies, Easter rolls, cookies, Kalter Hund and Amerikaner. As the Club was financially supported by UK-German Connection, all ingredients were paid for and the students were able to take the product home. A student said: “I’ve really enjoyed the German Baking Club. It has been a great break at lunch time from A levels and we get to keep what we make. I also found it good to learn new recipes from another culture, as I got to see the similarities and differences between English and German food.”
