Our UK-German competition ‘Welcome to my World’ is back and this year we’re inviting you to get creative with videos!

Travel may still be off limits right now, but the exploration of another country and culture doesn’t have to be! We’re calling on all young people from across the UK and Germany to take us on a virtual tour of your country. So get creative, start filming and share a glimpse of your world!

See below for further information about how to submit a video entry to our competition.

Please note: By entering this competition, you grant UK-German Connection non-exclusive permission to use your video for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, without any remuneration being due.

  • What is the competition all about?
    • Simply send us a 20 second video under the title “Welcome to my World” – this could be:
      • A video of your town/city
      • Something unusual you’ve seen while out walking/exercising
      • A project you’ve been working on
      • A cultural fact or tradition you want to share with others
      • Your hobbies or interests
      • A day in your life
      • Anything else you want to show – be creative!

    For privacy reasons, please do not send videos that show any faces. Instead, you could send videos that show the backs of people’s heads (or that don’t include people at all!)

  • Who can enter?

    To enter, you must be:

    • Aged between 12 and 19
    • A permanent resident of the UK or Germany

    Please note that you do not have to be learning German.

  • How do I submit an entry?
    • Send your video entry by email to stories@ukgermanconnection.org *
    • Attach your video to the email and include a short paragraph in your email, which should include:
      • Your name
      • Your age
      • Your school/institution
      • Your location
      • Where your video was taken
      • A short description of what your video shows
    • If you have social media, you could also post your video there (in addition to sending it by email):
      • use the hashtag #myworlddeineWelt
      • and tag us @ukgconnection (Instagram) / @ukgconnection (Twitter) / @ukgermanconnection (Facebook)

    *If the file is too large to email, consider using a free file transfer service to send it to this same email address (e.g. WeTransfer/Dropbox).’

    Deadline to submit: 11 April 2021

  • What format should my video be?
    • All videos must be no longer than 20 seconds, including any credits.
    • All videos must be filmed in landscape orientation.
    • Please avoid using copyrighted music or images in your video. You can use YouTube’s audio library to find royalty-free music.
    • Submit your video in MP4, MOV or WMV file formats, with high quality and resolution (up to a maximum of 1080p)
    • If you use audio for your video, this can be in either English or German.
  • What happens after I submit my entry?

    Once the deadline has passed, the entries will be judged and:

    • The best videos submitted will be showcased on our website and social media channels
    • The top entries will also be sent prizes!
  • How will my videos be used?

    By entering this competition, you grant UK-German Connection non-exclusive permission to use your video for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, without any remuneration being due. If and when we use your video we will credit you accordingly.

    Your videos entries may be showcased:

    • on our UK-German Connection social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instragram)
    • in Still & Sparkling, our newsletter for young people
    • as website content related to the theme of the competition and the promotion of youth relations on www.ukgermanconnection.org
