‘Opferfest’ (Eid al-Adha)
At the weekend we all thoroughly enjoyed visiting various exciting places in and around Berlin – the East Side gallery, Berliner Dom and the Stasi Museum, to name but a few! It was very warm so we were all enjoying the sun. For me, Sunday was heavily dominated by ‘Opferfest’ (Eid al-Adha); a Muslim celebration which commemorates the sacrifice that Ibrahim was willing to make in order to follow Allah’s commands. Its a way of bringing family together to talk and eat lots of Turkish specialities! Coming from a Christian household, it was really interesting for me to see a different way of celebrating, and also the Turkish culture while in the middle of Berlin. I think we all had a great weekend getting to know our partners and Berlin even more.
