We’re planning lots of exciting UK-German opportunities for young people, teachers and schools. See below for more information about what’s happening now, as well as upcoming events and opportunities to get involved!

  • For schools, youth groups & language assistants
  • Funding for partnership activities

    What is it about?

    Primary and secondary schools (including SEN schools), FE colleges and youth groups can apply funding for UK-German activities, including planning visits, taster trips and joint activities, including virtual projects.

    Q&A webinars for anyone interested in finding out more about these funding programmes will take place throughout the year.

  • School Partnership Bursaries

    School partnership bursaries of £1,000 are available to help schools maintain existing links with Germany. Apply now for support for partnership activities taking place in 2022.

  • Café Connect for school and youth partnerships

    Adapted from our classic ‘Café Connect‘, for individual young people, we are now offering this virtual exchange café to partner schools and youth groups as a chance to keep in touch, meet up online in a friendly atmosphere and take part in fun, interactive activities, and group discussions on current topics.

  • Cultural Exchange Ambassadors

    What is it about?

    Cultural Exchange Ambassadors are English & German Language Assistants working in the other country. The programme provides Ambassadors with the opportunity to meet each other, partner up and run bilateral projects together.

    English Language Assistants in Germany can apply to join our 2021-22 Cultural Exchange Ambassadors Programme until Thursday, 16 December 2021.

  • 75-years of UK-NRW friendship: Capture Your Connection!

    Do you have a connection with North Rhine-Westphalia? Join in the celebrations and get involved with our ‘Capture Your Connection’ challenge by sharing a creative representation of your partnership. There will be small ‘UK-NRW-75’ goodies for all submissions and the most creative entries will receive special prizes!

  • Café Connect (+ festive special!)

    What is it about?

    Taking place twice a month, these online meet-ups are a unique opportunity to exchange with other young people from the UK and Germany in a friendly atmosphere. Young people can join as many sessions as they like and can get involved even if they don’t speak any German.

    When does it take place?

    Meet-ups take place twice a month (on Tuesday and Thursday) during school term time. A special festive meet-up will take place on Tuesday, 14 December 2021.

  • Going Green interactive map

    What is it about?

    To tie in with our youth events around the theme of sustainability and stimulate conversations on this topic, young people are sharing green initiatives from around the UK and Germany. Young people are invited to drop a pin on our interactive map and post a picture from their community.

  • UK-German Exchange Fellowships

    What is it about?

    UK-German Exchange Fellowships is a new programme, which provides pupils aged 15-18 in the UK and NRW with the opportunity to spend one, two or three weeks at an existing partner school in Germany and carry out a project on a theme of their choice.

    When does it take place?

    The visits should take place in 2022 but the dates are completely flexible and are chosen and agreed on by the two participating pupils and their schools and families.

  • Virtual Conference on climate change (COP26)

    What is it about?

    Taking place against the backdrop of the COP26 climate conference and Youth Summit, this two-part virtual youth conference will explore the outcomes of the climate conferences, and give young people the chance to exchange on the role of local communities, cities, and regions in the fight against the climate crisis.

    This conference is run in collaboration with the British Embassy Berlin and Germany Embassy London.

    When does it take place?

    The first webinar will take place in mid-October 2021, the second webinar will take place in late November 2021.

  • Youth Webinar Series ‘Together: Reflecting on Life After Conflict’

    What is it about?

    This three-part webinar series, run together with Never Such Innocence, gives young people from the UK and Germany the chance to get creative through poetry, song, and photography whilst reflecting on the theme of ‘life after conflict’.

    When does it take place?

    This event will take place in November 2021, consisting of a series of webinars throughout the month.

    What age-group is it for?

    This event is for young people aged 12-14.

  • Youth Webinar 'Green Cities'

    What is it about?

    To mark 75 years of friendship between the United Kingdom and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), this two-part webinar will bring together young people from the UK and NRW to discuss how to make cities more environmentally friendly.

    This event is run in collaboration with British Council Germany.

    When does it take place?

    The webinars will take place in mid-November 2021.

    What age-group is it for?

    This event is for young people aged 16-19 (in full-time school education).
