15-year Anniversary Challenge: Capture Your Connection

Do you have a UK-German connection?

Share your story and celebrate your experience by submitting an entry to our 15-year Anniversary Challenge! 

To mark our 15th birthday, we want to celebrate all the fantastic connections between the UK and Germany that you have built.

Whether it’s a friendship, school partnership, youth group exchange or other connection, share it creatively and inspire others with your story!

You can enter as an individual, a pair, a class or a group. Top entries will be featured on our website and social media channels & there will be prizes for outstanding contributions!

Cultural Exchange Ambassadors

Cultural Exchange Ambassadors are English & German Language Assistants working in the other country. The programme provides Ambassadors with the opportunity to meet each other, partner up and run bilateral projects together.

German Pupil Course Group Leaders

Each year, three posts are available for qualified UK teachers with experience of teaching German up to GCSE/S5 (for course option 2) or A-level/S6 (for course option 1) and experience of taking groups of young people abroad, to act as group leaders on the German Pupil Courses.

You will work alongside other teachers at a German school and will stay – where possible – with a German host family.

German Scholarship Programme

The German Scholarships Programme is a four week long course in Germany for students with a high level of German. The course is entirely funded by the German Foreign Office and eight students are selected each year.  The students spend two weeks living with host families and participate in an international programme, involving cultural and educational excursions and activities.

This programme is open to UK pupils in their penultimate school year (Year 12 in England and Wales, S5 in Scotland, Year 13 in Northern Ireland).

German Pupil Courses

The German Pupil Courses are 2-week courses in Germany for UK pupils studying German. There are three courses every summer for 12 pupils and one accompanying teacher each. They are a fantastic opportunity for pupils to get first-hand experience of German life and culture and improve their German language skills at the same time.

This programme is open to pupils in Year 12 (England, Wales) / Year 13 (Northern Ireland) / S5 (Scotland) and Year 10 (England, Wales) / Year 11 (Northern Ireland) / S3 (Scotland).

Host a Teacher from Germany

Bring German culture into your classroom! Host a German teacher for one, two or three weeks during the upcoming academic year, at no cost.

Apply by 18 September 2020 to host later in the autumn term, and 1 December 2020 to host in the spring and/or summer term of 2021.

Flexible funding scheme

This special flexible funding scheme is designed to bring young people of the UK and Germany together to facilitate an exchange of ideas, joint learning and open discussions on special topics and current issues. Projects can be virtual or include mobility.

Previous themes available under the flexible funding scheme include ‘World War I’ and ‘Our future in Europe – maintaining the UK-German Connection’.

Instant Impact

The Instant Impact grant is available for group taster trips and visits to Germany for young people.

Partnership Visit Fund

The Partnership Visit Fund provides financial support for teachers who wish to visit their partner school and plan activities between their young people.

Europass

Europass helps individuals highlight their abilities in an effective way. It promotes the mobility of individuals throughout Europe by removing barriers to working, studying or training in Europe. It is free and enables people to present their competences, skills and qualifications in a clear way.
